Welcome to Greece!
After defeating the Pallantides, Theseus wanted to rescue Athens from the blood tribute it was paying to Minow. It was then the third time that seven youths and seven maidens had to leave for Crete in order to be thrown to the Minotaur. Theseus decided to go along with them.
When Aegeus heard Theseus’ decision, he was plunged into deep sorrow because he was certain this was sure death for his son. However, faced with Theseus determination, he gave in.
As they were getting ready to sail away, Aegeus gave his son, in addition to the black sails of their ship, another set of white sails which they were to hoist if they would return victorious.
Theseus arrived in Crete and conquered the Minotaur, but on his return, he forgot to put up the white sails. When Aegeus saw the black sails while waiting at Sounion, he thought that the Minotaur hd torn apart his son also. He was seized with despair, fell into sea and drowned.
Since that time the sea took his name and is called the Aegean.
MORNING SEA
Let me stand here. Let me look at nature for a while
the morning sea and the clouds sky,
bright blue and yellow bank,everything,
beautifully and profusely lit-up. C.P.Cavafy
